2X Winner Best Song.
A letter was written to Nicky days after Michele's mother died. The song will now be used in her Best First Time Feature Screenplay "A Son's Gift" Composition and Lyrics by Michele
Music collaboration by Michele and Tamara Jokic
Few people would think of describing the death of a child as a miracle, but for Michele that is precisely what the death of her son, Nicky, is to her - an unexpected and unexplained occurrence that changed the outcome of her life forever.
Her epiphany was that, instead of ending her story in tragedy after the death of her teenage son, she must continue to draw breath and reinvest herself into others' lives. She found a way to pivot with purpose by walking alongside those experiencing loss with compassion, strength and wisdom drawn from her personal tragedies.
Michele’s life has been a story of loss, abuse, bullying, physical illness, and depression, yet she has kept her unconventional spirit alive and flourishing. Far from letting her traumas drag her down or define her, she has learned how to draw strength from resistance and be grateful for the challenges that allow her to grow onward.
Like a sunflower turning its face to the sun, Michele finds her courage in the memory of her son and his voice within her, always encouraging her with her special mantra, “say their name.”
Her relatability and personal experiences traversing the complex landscape of grief make Michele a pillar of support for grieving parents, siblings and young adults dealing with various traumas that stand in the way of their growth and development.
She never hides who she is or what she has been through, but speaks the truth about difficult and painful subjects with authenticity and candor. For Michele, the true miracle is that she is still alive and thriving after the death of her son, actively using her story to encourage and teach others while keeping the memory of him alive through her grief journey.
